Many of you have probably noticed walking from Surrey Quays station down to the end of Lower Road , corner with Croft Street, a group of volunteers working hard over the last months to revamp a piece of land that has been neglected for almost 30 years.
A group of local residents, guided by the enthusiastic Lara Salinas, are transforming an abandoned strip of land into a community garden where everyone is welcome.
They set up a non-for-profit association and obtained permission from the land’s owners in November 2020 and are aiming to open the garden to the community at the beginning of Summer 2021.
“Now more than ever we all need the mental health benefits of a safe outdoor space to connect with nature, meet our local community, and source healthy food.
This garden is that space, turning the current hazardous eye-sore into a real asset for the local community.
Our vision for the garden is an inclusive space, where the youngest and eldest of our community come together, creating stronger intergenerational links among local residents.” said Lara in an interview with our colleague Sila.
There is still a lot to do and your precious help is needed!
